FAQ: Costs, practices, clients

What do you do and how do you charge? What are your rates?

Most of the time, I work by the project. Typical projects:

Focus is on strategy and intelligent planning, brand and message, content marketing, search engine marketing, persona development.

Most of my projects are less than half of what agencies charge. I can do this because I use refined, structured methodologies that makes extensive use of the company principals’ and customer-facing employees’ own understanding, to vastly increase speed and reduce costs of reaching insights. Because I have done many, many of these projects, we need far less research. A project is typically $6000-15,000 and I can adapt to your budget and schedule.

I also work at an hourly rate for many clients.

Where are your clients?

Worldwide! Long before the pandemic, I adapted my methods to use the Internet. I have clients in Germany, England, China, Austria, Poland, Australia, India, as well as the United States and Canada. I am located in Silicon Valley, in California, and in upstate New York.

What kind of clients do you serve?

My marketing strategy offerings apply to almost any business. My clients are mostly business-to-business (B2B) entrepreneurs, but I’ve served a wide range, including business-to-consumer (B2C) clients in software sales, software consulting services, enterprise business services, IT services, specialty retail, high-tech equipment and hardware, online publishing, and IT training. Clients range from 1-5000 employees and revenues from under $1M to over $1B.

Do you have a client list you can share?

I have served about 80 clients. I am not permitted to name most of them but here’s a pretty good picture:

I have done a lot of work with Atlassian and their Partners. Atlassian is a $2B (as of 2021) developer of enterprise software for software development and team collaboration (best known are JIRA, Trello, Confluence): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlassian.

The Atlassian Partners provide software development services and product, mainly for enterprises. I can’t disclose names without permission but here are two that have allowed me to share, and who will provide testimonials:

Go2Group
Brikit

I did persona development for West Marine, a $700 M specialty retailer with 300 retail stores.

I am on retainer for Network Development Group: They develop Linux training and advanced training appliances for IT (corp and academia).

My last non-consulting employment experience was as Executive Director of Internet Marketing for Maxim Integrated ($2.5 B semiconductor manufacturer), since acquired by Analog Devices.
